What Boston ivy is
Boston ivy (Parthenocissus tricuspidata) is a deciduous climbing vine. It clings to walls with small adhesive pads at the tips of its tendrils, has glossy three-lobed leaves that turn red in fall, and loses its leaves in winter. Botanically it belongs to the grape family rather than to Hedera.
Boston ivy on brick and walls
Because it climbs flat walls, Boston ivy is common on brick houses.
Remove it or keep it with ivy trimming
Like the red fall colour? Ivy trimming lets you keep the vine on the wall while clearing windows, eavestroughs and rooflines; full removal is the other option.
